"What to do when technology kills your businessI" (Via Jan Norman, Orange County Register)

Excerpt:

The business was struggling with its retail-online balancing act in 2008 when the New York Times ran a review of the scanning service in August of 2008. Yahoo! placed the story on its home page for a while and traffic was so heavy that ScanMyPhotos.com's servers froze. Orders poured.  "That changed our business forever," Goldstone said. From that time on, the company used the ScanMyPhotos.com name, even though the shop still had the 30 Minute Photos Etc. sign on the building.

Now, based on a Groupon purchase, we're in the middle of summer-long photo scanning project. Essentially, we're reclaiming photos from the attic, old trip albums, and desk drawers and repackaging them for digital transformation. Already, we've bundled up 2000 photos (mostly of people, not scenery) and sent them off to be scanned by ScanMyPhotos.com. (So far, the quality has been good, although we did opt to pay extra for the higher-resolution service.) My husband's been hand-scanning hundreds of photos that are either too old, odd-sized, or too precious to be sent off to the commercial scanner.
Most of the photos pre-date the digital age. Or at least from before I entered the digital camera era, just before my daughter was born. (My husband, an early adopter of all things digital, bought a digital camera well before I did. Unfortunately, he rarely took photos.)

ScanMyPhotos.com Has Relocated to a Large Corporate Office

Dear Friends,

An exciting announcement.

After 20-years at this location and constantly reinventing our retail photo center, the shift from film to digital has won out. Today, it is all digital and we have closed 30 Minute Photos Etc. as it has existed since 1990. We moved to a large corporate office across the street at 3 Corporate Park. The new facility boasts vast space and affords up more opportunities to create even better customer experiences and faster order fulfillments.

As many of you know, in August 2008, David Pogue, the personal tech columnist at The New York Times published a raving review for ScanMyPhotos.com - our professional photo digitization and online business; millions of people read the article and today we are international . >From the moment that review was printed and posted online, our lives changed. Orders from around the world streamed in, we hired many exceptional employees and invested in advanced infrastructure to professionally manage our growth. Mr. Pogue's review was followed by scores of other tech reviews, national media attention, social media posts and comments from our loyal, local fans. The result led to our "problem," we have entirely outgrown this retail store. At the same time, we are grateful to the property management company, owners of this center and our fellow entrepreneurial friends at Corporate Park - many are like family to us and have inspired us.

All customer services are still available and many new featured photo imaging products are being added to showcase all the newest ways to preserve and share your photo memories. Existing customer orders have been moved to the new location and we invite everyone to follow our expansion, we couldn't have done it without YOU.

Look for the new "ScanMyPhotos" building at 3 Corporate Park and stop by to say hello.

You are the reason for our phenomenal success!

Mitch Goldstone, Carl Berman and the entire ScanMyPhotos.com family

O.C. business closes, yet survives (The Orange County Register)

After almost 21 years in the same location 30 Minute Photos closed its Irvine retail location yet the owners' surviving sister company, ScanMyPhotos.com survives in a corporate location nearby.
The new location has a lobby where customers can work on their photos, but the workspace for the company's eight employees is behind locked doors. That security has become necessary as ScanMyPhotos.com has attracted a celebrity following whose photos must be protected from theft by tabloids and others.

"ScanMyPhotos.com digitally scanned and preserved tens-of-millions of photo memories," Said Mitch Goldstone, president & CEO, ScanMyPhotos.com

“Worn, damaged and faded imperfections are fixed with ease - not on Dad's face, but to his cherished family photographs,” explained Mitch Goldstone, president & CEO of Irvine, CA-based ScanMyPhotos.com.

The company that digitally scans and preserves tens-of-millions of photo memories has created a pay-one-price photo restoration service to restore any standard picture - no matter how damaged it is.
